Beauty Favourites – August 2017

I love to read other blogger’s monthly favourites – quite often I find many products that I haven’t tried before and always enjoy seeing what’s recommended. I thought I’d put together a short list of my Beauty Favourites for this month over the Bank Holiday Weekend.

August is a funny month here in England. Some days it’s overcast and raining, others it’s blistering sunshine and humidity. These products are perfect for all year round but I’ve found them particularly effective in this on-off weather.

IMG_3014[34]Burt’s Bees Deep Cleansing Cream – £11.49 from Burt’s Bees

I received a 20g trial size of the Deep Cleansing Cream and after only using it once, I knew I was going to buy the full sized product. The gentle menthol feeling is heavenly and amazingly refreshing especially when used as a morning cleanse. The consistency of the product is a thick cream that is easily massaged into the skin to remove all traces of dirt that have accumulated overnight. I haven’t used it as a first evening cleanse to remove makeup but I feel like the product would be wasted on that as it’s so nourishing on the skin. As with most cleansers, it’s advised to avoid the eye area but I massage it all over and have on occasion accidentally got it in my eye and there’s no sting whatsoever; even my lashes have started to feel softer.

IMG_3015[36]L’Oreal Pure Clay Glow Mask – £7.99 from Boots

I purchased this mask several months ago, used it once and wasn’t impressed. Its claim of exfoliated, glowing skin left me underwhelmed and I stuck it in the back of a drawer. Despite the hot and humid weather here in the UK, my skin has been exceptionally dry recently and while I was rummaging through my skincare I spotted the mask and decided to give it a go.
I must have done something wrong the first time I used this mask because the effect was immediate! My skin felt fresh and revitalised without any tightness or dryness that can often be caused with a clay mask. I tend to leave the mask on for 10-20 minutes while I make a cup of tea and check my twitter and instagram.
I splashed lukewarm water all over my face and gently used my fingertips to buff the exfoliating texture over my face, concentrating on my forehead, nose, chin and jawline. I find using a washcloth to be too harsh on my skin with this mask; I definitely don’t need double exfoliation, thank you very much. I followed up by gently wiping away the rest of the product with damp hands until my face was squeaky clean.
I have been using it twice a week and the texture of my skin is so different compared to a month ago. It’s a fantastic product and I can’t wait to try some of the other masks in the range! (I’ve got my eye on the Revitalift Filler Hyaluromask)

GOSH Lumi Drops – £7.99 from Superdrug

The GOSH Lumi Drops have been a firm favourite of mine for a long time but I’ve been reaching for them so often in the last month that I couldn’t leave them off the list! I have two shades (Peach and Bronze) and love how luminous they are without looking glittery and chunky. Peach is my everyday go-to but I love popping a little bit of Bronze right at the top of my cheekbone where my bronzer meets my hairline. It gives an extra depth and dimension to the skin without being overwhelming.

IMG_3013[30]Naturally Radiant Glycolic Overnight Peel – £5.99 from Superdrug

I picked up this little gem from Superdrug without high expectations but it has blown me away. The texture of my skin is smoother and the overall tone is far more even. Glycolic Acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) derived from sugarcane and is a great alternative to a physical exfoliator. I’ve read that the Overnight Peel contains 1.4% Glycolic Acid (although this isn’t confirmed and Superdrug haven’t responded to any of my enquiries about it) so it’s a great introductory product to those who are new to acids, or a good addition to those who already use acids but want an extra little overnight boost. I always follow up with an SPF the following day – as you should be doing anyway – as Glycolic Acid can increase your sensitivity to the sun. It has a gel-like consistency and feels wet upon application but dries within a minute. It’s best applied before bed and left on overnight and should be washed off in the morning, leaving you with a fresh glow.

So there you have it! I hope you enjoyed reading my Beauty Favourites for August 2017. I’d love to know if you’ve tried any of these products and what you thought of them, and also what are your beauty favourites for this month? Let me know!

I hope you had a wonderful Bank Holiday Weekend!

Until next time,nekokez

  1. I like all the L’Oréal face masks and the Overnight Radiance that you have mentioned sounds interesting to me I have never tried any peels yet this can be a good start. 🙂 The Burt’s Bee cleanser I will surely like as it has that cooling effect. 🙂
