The £3 Serum You Cannot Go Without

Serums are one of the most important parts of your skincare routine. Many of them contain potent ingredients which are beneficial for the skin, but it can often be confusing and potentially expensive to determine which is best for you. I like to research products before I splash out on something more high-end, so the Simply Pure Hydrating Serum from Superdrug was very much an impulse buy for me. I didn’t even bother checking the ingredient list; the price grabbed my attention straight away at only £3! It’s probably one of the cheapest I have ever seen in store. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much, but I thought it would be worth trying considering just how inexpensive it was. It has now become a holy grail product in my skincare routine.

Simply Pure Hydrating Serum

This unassuming bottle is full of joy. There’s certainly nothing that screams luxury – in fact, the packaging is exactly what it says: simply pure. Some people might not like the fact it’s so basic, but I certainly do. This bottle can take a beating and has travelled far and wide with me without so much as a dent in the plastic. Its opacity also ensures that sunlight will not spoil the product inside, although you should still aim to keep your skincare products in a cool area of the house. The consistency is similar to a lotion and easily spreads around the face. I use 1-2 pumps (depending on how my skin feels that day) and dot the product on my forehead, cheeks, chin and neck and gently massage in with my fingertips. I have dry skin and I’ve definitely been using less moisturiser as a result of this serum. If you have oily/combination skin, I would imagine you could get away with using even less moisturiser than I do (which is only about the size of a pea).

The back of the bottle reads:
Simply Pure Hydrating Serum is designed to replenish and nourish sensitive skin. Enriched with calming Soothex and a fortitying Ceramide Blend, this hydrating formula helps to improve skin’s natural elasticity and suppleness for a smoother, more radiant complexion.

I absolutely agree with the claims they make. Although I don’t have sensitive skin by any means, my skin certainly does feel soothed and immediately hydrated. The formula isn’t rich but gives the effect that I’ve just drenched myself in moisturiser, minus the greasy residue.

The Simply Pure Hydrating Serum contains some great ingredients that are wonderfully beneficial for the skin, such as:
Lactic Acid – A gentle acid exfoliant that also stimulates collagen
Sodium Hyaluronate – Man-made salt form of hyaluronic acid
Ceramide 3/Ceramide 6 II/Ceramide 1 – Ceramide holds skin cells together and form a protective layer whilst plumping the skin
Boswellia Serrata Gum – The Soothex they speak of, which is an anti-Inflammatory, anti-irritant and soothing agent

Full ingredient list:
Aqua, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycereth-26, Polysorbate 60, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Boswellia Serrata Gum, Dipropylene Glycol, Allantoin, Sodium PCA, Pentylene Glycol, Sodium Lactate, Lactic Acid, Serine, Urea, Sorbitol, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Ceramide NP, Ceramide AP, Ceramide EOP, Phytosphingosine, Cholesterol, Carbomer, Xanthan Gum, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Hydroxide, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Disodium EDTA.

This serum is also alcohol free, fragrance free and cruelty free.

The Simply Pure Hydrating Serum comes with a handy pump dispenser

I started by using the serum twice a day but now I only using it in the evening and use a vitamin C serum in the morning. My cleansing routing as follows is: cleanse, tone (am) OR acid tone (pm), spritz, serum, moisturiser. I always use a serum as my second to last step after cleansing and allow it 5-10 minutes to really sink in before applying my moisturiser.

The Simply Pure Hydrating Serum is available here from Superdrug – they often have deals like Buy One Get One Half Price but at only £3 per bottle, it’s worth picking up.

  1. Oooh this sounds great! Love that it’s cruelty free as well. It sounds so good for such a cheap product & I’m after some skincare cos I suffer with horrendous hormonal breakouts so I may look into this! (: xx

  4. I love this one! I definitely agree you don’t need a heavy moisturiser with this, I really like gel moisturisers over the top because they leave your skin feeling so radiant 🙂 xx
