Highlighter, to me, is one of those products that can instantly make you feel empowered. Whether your smokey eye didn’t go as planned or your lipstick is a little smudged, highlighter makes you feel like you can conquer the world. I don’t go for a blinding glow (although sometimes, admittedly, I have swept on just a tiny bit too much that I can practically see people squinting as they look upon my tin-man cheekbones) but I seem to run through highlighter almost faster than anything else. Because of this, I love finding a drugstore product that blows you away as much as a high-end one – and quite frankly, who doesn’t want to save a little extra money? This is where the Sleek ‘Solstice’ Highlighting Palette comes in.
You’ve probably seen this product raved about all over the internet, but there’s a reason for that. Solstice won me over the day I walked into my local Superdrug and spotted the tester on the shelf. I was drawn straight to the rose-gold packaging and darted across the aisle to see the product inside. I was not expecting such beautiful and daring colours; I’d never seen a drugstore lavender highlighter at this point! I swatched them all immediately after squealing a little (much to the delight of other customers, I’m sure) and was stunned to find a magnificent cream highlight in the top left of the palette.
Ecliptic is by far my favourite. Daring, metallic and copper-toned with an almost silver shift, it’s my everyday highlight that can be sheered out or built up. Hemisphere and Equinox both are baked powders and look stunning in the sunlight. Subsolar has a more matte finish but still has a beautiful yellow-toned finish that really catches your eye. The longevity of them all is astonishing. Usually creams, like Ecliptic, start to slip off after a few hours but it really grips to the skin and doesn’t budge. Layering them certainly is a pleasure – Hemisphere and Subsolar create an amazing colour that really looks stunning (due to them being complementary colours).
I would absolutely recommend this palette to anyone – if you can find it! It’s usually sold out everywhere (no surprise there) so definitely snap one up if you can. Sleek Makeup is also cruelty free, too!
